The Sandy Times
Summer at Sandyport
Aug 05, 2021
Nassau summers were made for relaxing days on our secluded Lagoon Beach. Enjoy fewer crowds and ideal sand-castle building conditions. Soak up the sun, then take a dip in the ocean—our crystal-clear waters beckon exploration and discovery. The Bahamas are home to five percent of the world’s coral reefs, and you’ll find one just off our beach. Get a glimpse beneath the surface with our complimentary snorkel gear. If you’re lucky, you’ll meet the school of nineteen stingrays who have taken up residence in Sandyport waters.
You can also access top Nassau snorkeling sites from Cable Beach, Cabbage Beach, and Clifton Heritage Park. For an offshore snorkeling experience, book a half-day tour with Stuart Cove’s Dive Center. Your guide will meet you at Sandyport and transport you to sunken shipwrecks and coral reefs like Nari Nari and Little Elvis. Feeling a little more adventurous? Stuart Cove’s also offers excursions with shark diving, scuba diving, and snuba—a scuba alternative that requires only basic swimming skills.
After a day of ocean escapades, lounge on a hammock and sip on a Kalik, the Bahamian beer of choice. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, head to Arawak Cay, or "Fish Fry" as it’s known to locals. Here, you’ll have a chance to sample authentic Bahamian eats from a variety of vendors. A few local favorites are conch salad, conch fritters, and of course, fried fish. When you’re ready, return to Sandyport and end the night with an island beverage or a final stroll on the beach.
