Keep to Your Budget, Even in the Bahamas
Jul 01, 2019
From the outside looking in, the Bahamas can seem like an expensive destination to visit, but if you look a little further you can see that it is a great place to travel to while still pinching a couple of pennies. Nassau is full of interesting things to do, absolutely for free. Some of our favorite activities to do without breaking the bank are right here in our own backyard—including spending an afternoon at the beach soaking up all the sun and floating in the salty sea. Explore the underwater world with our complimentary snorkeling gear then go local for the best value drinks with a Kalik or Sands, two excellent local beers, or splash in some local rum in your Island cocktail. Our twice-weekly complimentary bus to the local supermarket allows you to stock up your refrigerator with the necessary supplies and if you opt for a room with a kitchen you can save on meals too.
John Watling’s Distillery is another fun way to experience the essence of the Bahamas completely for free. Mix this stop in with a trip on the Jitney and our Bahamas Bucket List points of interest and local map for a self-guided tour around Nassau including the Queen’s staircase at your own pace. If you are looking to get a better feel for the Bahamian culture head for the Summer Junkanoo Festival. Every Saturday, starting on July 20th, 2019 to August 10th, 2019, the major Junkanoo groups will leave their shacks and march to Arawak Cay for a fun-filled and rhythmic cultural competition. Groups and spectators alike will share in the fun and the spirit of Junkanoo. Nassau is a great place to explore and relax, even on a budget!
